NYSAC program aims to increase county clean energy economic development projects

The New York State Association of Counties has announced the expansion of a program that provides residents and businesses with clean energy incentives that reduce energy costs and improve the environmental performance of buildings and vehicles.

The Renew My Community program was established by Blue Springs Energy in 2010 with Monroe County, and has spread across state counties to provide with information on clean energy incentives that reduce energy costs and improve the environmental performance of buildings and vehicles. In New York state, more than $1 billion in clean energy incentives and grant funding is available annually to help upgrade buildings and fleets. This funding comes from the federal and state governments, utilities, and other sources. Tracking, identifying and accessing these funds can be difficult without clean energy and program administrator expertise.

The Renew My Community program provides county administrations, economic development organizations, and its business and residential building and vehicle owners with an online one-stop-shop of all the clean energy incentives available in their communities. It is branded with a local website such as www.RenewChautauquaCounty.org. Furthermore, the county can easily communicate and promote their clean energy initiatives and agenda to constituents.

“The Renew My Community program makes it easy for counties to provide information on clean energy programs that help residents and businesses save money on energy. It’s a great low-cost way to promote clean energy within our counties,” said NYSAC Executive Director Stephen Acquario.
