Chili cookoff Saturday to benefit Blue Star Mothers

WESTFIELD – Cross Roads Farm & Craft market will sponsor an All-American Chili Cook-Off Saturday to benefit the NY Chapter 4 Blue Star Mothers.

The competition will feature entries in the categories of restaurant, service organization and individual class with local professional chefs serving as judges, as well as a special People’s Choice Award given to the chili deemed to be the favorite by the general public. Chili submissions are open to any interested person or organization, and prizes will be awarded to the three first-place winners, as well as the People’s Choice.

Cross Roads is located on 6017 Sherman-Westfield Road, County Route 21, in Westfield. Chili tasting will be from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., and entries should be on-site by 9:30 a.m. the same day. Individual tasters will pay 25 cents per sample of chili, and bowls of chili will also be available for purchase.

The Blue Star Mothers organization exists to provide support to veterans and active-duty military persons. In the past year, the NY Chapter 4 Blue Star Mothers have sent more than 550 care packages to men and women in active duty, with the contents and postage of $14.85 per box being largely provided by the local community donors. Proceeds from the All-American Chili Cook-Off will be applied to the Christmas Care Package Project currently under way.

In addition to chili purchases, 50/50 tickets, patriotic T-shirts and Adopt a Box opportunities will allow further support to the annual Christmas Care Package Project.
