The Resource Center hires new controller for agency

The Resource Center has announced the hiring of Betsy Thayer as the agency’s controller.

Thayer, a Jamestown native, is looking forward to her role with The Resource Center, which is one of the largest not-for-profit organizations in Western New York. She admires TRC’s position as an organization that works to improve the lives of people with disabilities.

“The agency serves a valuable purpose in the community. I feel more fulfilled performing my job duties for TRC, given their mission,” Thayer said. She added that she wants to volunteer in support of some of the many community activities that TRC undertakes each year.

In her role as controller, Thayer is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of payments for purchases, payroll processing and monthly financial statements. She consults with TRC staff on proper accounting policies and practices, and she will participate in the planning and implementation of financial strategies.

“I feel truly fortunate that Betsy has joined The Resource Center team,” said Kelly Dimitri, chief financial officer. “Her expertise and commitment to results have already made an impact on the agency.”

Thayer earned her bachelor of science degree in public accountancy from the State University of New York at Fredonia. Prior to that, she obtained bachelor of arts degrees in psychology and health and human services from the University at Buffalo. She became a certified public accountant in 2013 and is a member of AICPA, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She said she decided to become a CPA because she enjoys conducting research, solving problems and working with numbers.

Thayer and her husband have one child, with a second on the way this spring. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as hiking. She also volunteers with the Chautauqua County Humane Society.
