DEWITTVILLE — Cadwell’s Cheese House & Gifts, located in Dewittville is celebrating its 90th anniversary in business this year. Sole Proprietor Jane Currie is planning some very special events to take place Saturday, July 15, at the business at 5392 E. Lake Rd., Route 430, Dewittville, from 1-4 p.m.

The celebration will feature music from the jazz band Soft Touch, with singer and band leader Diane Davies from 1-4 p.m. Woodbury Winery of Fredonia will also be on hand offering samples and the opportunity to purchase a bottle or case of your favorite. The Borsari Food Company will be at the celebration offering tastings using their specialty seasoning products. Cadwell’s Cheese House will offer complimentary cheese and crackers for their celebration guests as well.

One of the unique items that the business sells are books by local authors. About a dozen local authors will be on hand at the July 15th event. Those wishing to purchase any of the local books will be able to have the author sign them, a plus for any book lover. As an added special bonus, American political satirist Mark Russell is expected to make an appearance at this 90th anniversary celebration. More events could be added as the planning progresses.

Founded by Jane Currie’s father, Ford Cadwell in 1927 (who made the cheese at the location from 1927 to 1947), the Cheese House features domestic and imported cheeses, special New York State aged cheese, gourmet foods, specialty gift items, greeting cards, books by local authors, and maple syrup. Cadwell’s Cheese House & Gifts is open Memorial Day through Columbus Day seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Famous customers have included Mrs. Thomas Edison (daughter of Lewis Miller, co-founder of Chautauqua Institution), who would arrive with a driver and always wore a hat and gloves; Brad Anderson, the creator of the Marmaduke cartoon strip; and political satirist Mark Russell. Plan on coming to Cadwell’s Cheese House & Gifts on Saturday, July 15 to help celebrate 90 years in business!
