Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation Board welcomes Freay

WESTFIELD — Members of the Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation recently welcomed Andrew Freay of Mayville to their board of directors.

Freay is owner/operator of the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. He is a fifth generation funeral director. Before taking over the family business, he had been in the fitness industry and was employed by the Chautauqua Institution for nine years having served as manager of the fitness/aquatic programs. He also was Chautauqua’s director of recreation. Members of the Westfield First Baptist Church, he and his wife, Betsy Blakely-Freay of Westfield have two young daughters.

Freay also serves on the board of directors for the Chautauqua Lake Child Care Center at Chautauqua Lake Central School. He holds the following degrees: Community College for registered nursing; Slippery Rock University for bachelor of science in exercise physiology and a minor in adapted physical activity and Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science for funeral service arts and sciences.

He was drawn to the foundation board for several reasons. “Having been a patient in the hospital’s Emergency Department, I know how valuable a resource it is for Chautauqua County. The ED provides quick, proficient care, which is critical in an emergency or life-threatening situation,” he said. “Being acquainted with the Emergency Department in a professional capacity can only prove beneficial to the board. The experiences I’ve had there in my professional life have been very positive. I have great regard for the staff and the volunteer rescue squads in their dealings with families affected by crisis and loss.”
