Financial Aid Night set for Tuesday

The Silver Creek Central School District is hosting a Financial Aid Night Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

The theme is “Funding an Education.” All parents of college-bound juniors and seniors should attend. New regulations will be explained and are important for juniors.

Forestville Fall Fest to be held first weekend in October

The Forestville Fall Festival will be held Oct. 1-2 at Forestville High School.

On Saturday, there will be a chili cook-off. Each cook should bring his or her chili in at least a 5-quart slow cooker and have it at the high school by noon. Judging will be in the afternoon. Call Terri with any questions at 679-8384.

There will also be an amateur art and photo contest for all ages. School and community involvement is encouraged to showcase the talents in the area. Entries may be brought to the high school between 6 and 8 p.m. on Sept. 30 or Oct. 1 in the morning. Artists and photographers should bring their favorite photos and masterpieces!

District D brush

pickup starts Monday

The Dunkirk Public Works Department announ-ces that brush pickup for District D will be picked up the week of Sept. 26.

Brush must be at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on the Monday of the respective collection week but no earlier than the previous Saturday. City crews will collect each area only once. Brush placed at the curb after the crews pass by will not be collected and will be ticketed as a violation of the City Code and property owners will be prosecuted. Brush should be bundled with string or twine no more than 4 feet long, diameter of no more than 18 inches and shall weigh no more than 65 pounds. Bundles should be placed between the sidewalk and curb but should not be placed near any posts, trees, water or sewer boxes, etc. which could be damaged during removal operations. Brush placed on city property other than the area fronting the respective residential property will be ticketed.

City residents may also drop brush at the Public Works facility on Lucas Avenue. Refer to the 2016 Curbside Collection Sched-ule for more information.

Final day to apply

for deer permit Oct. 1

The last day to apply for deer management permits is Oct. 1, which is a Saturday.

The Pomfret Town Clerk’s office will be open from 9 a.m. to noon that day for hunters.

Moose Club Cruise Night set for Saturday

There will be a cruise night on Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Dunkirk Moose Club, Lake Shore Drive West. In addition to the vehicles, there will be live music, food, a 50/50 raffle, door prizes for the cruisers and two $50 cash door prizes to be given away. The event is for all car enthusiasts and is open to the public. There will be a full food menu inside the club. There is no admission fee.

Forestville canceled Tuesday meeting

The Forestville Village Board meeting Tuesday was canceled. Mayor Kevin Johnson cancelled it because it he was unable to attend the meeting.

Brush pickup delayed in Silver Creek

Silver Creek residents are advised that brush pickup will be slightly delayed. Brush can stay out on the curb and will be picked up by maintenance crews as soon as possible.

Silver Creek offices closed until Thursday

Silver Creek’s village offices will be closed until Thursday, when normal business hours will resume.

Pancake breakfast

set for Saturday

There will be a pancake breakfast on Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. at Applebee’s, 3908 Vineyard Drive, Dunkirk. Tickets will be available at the door the day of the event. The cost is $5 each. Proceeds will benefit the Dunkirk Music Boosters to buy band T-shirts for the Middle School Band for the Memorial Day parade.

A vacancy on the Town of Pomfret Zoning Board of Appeals has been created due to a recent resignation.

The town board is asking for any town resident (including in the village of Fredonia) interested in serving on the ZBA to send a letter of interest to Allison Dispense, Pomfret Town Clerk, 9 Day St., Fredonia, NY 14063.
