The Fredonia Village Board workshop scheduled for today has been canceled.

Mixed news at the gas pump

Gas prices are finally retreating. The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is now $2.34 per gallon, down three cents from last week, but up 43 cents from one year ago.

The New York state average is $2.54 per gallon, no change from last week. A year ago, the state average was $2.16.

AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:

¯ Buffalo — $2.47, up 1 cent

¯ Rochester — $2.47, down 1 cent

¯ Rome — $2.47, down 2 cents

¯ Syracuse — $2.43, down 1 cent

There’s mixed news with gas prices that are finally starting to retreat in price nationally after several weeks of increases. 2016 closed out with an average national price of $2.12, the cheapest since 2012 according to Oil Price Information Service (OPIS). Analysts say gas will cost more in 2017 and prices could even surpass levels seen in 2015, but will not reach the levels that consumers paid back in 2011-2014.

OPIS says motorists were getting a break the holiday weekend (Martin Luther King  Jr. Day) but warns that prices could hit the $2.65 to $2.85 range nationally this spring when refineries do annual maintenance, which means New York state drivers would be paying even more.
