State of State address is Thursday
Brian Stratton, director of the New York State Canal Corp., will give a regional State of the State address on Thursday in Fredonia.
His presentation will take place at the Fredonia Beaver Club on Prospect Street during the Rotary meeting, which begins at 12:15 p.m.
Lakeshore Humane Society open house on Saturday
Lakeshore Humane Society will hold an open house and adoption day Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at 431 E. Chestnut St. in Dunkirk.
Potential adopters can meet the available cats and dogs, those interested in volunteering can pick up applications, and donations may be dropped off. LHS always appreciates gifts of paper towels, high-efficiency laundry soap and bleach.
Silver Creek Village Board workshop set for today
The Silver Creek Village Board will hold its workshop today at 9 a.m. in village hall.
Brocton-Portland Dem Committee to meet Jan. 21
The Brocton-Portland Democrat Committee will meet Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Portland Town Hall.
Election of officers for 2017 will be held and the monthly meeting will discuss the November Town of Portland and Village of Brocton election. Anyone interested in running or helping in any way is welcome to attend. New members are always welcome.

Red Cross
volunteer info
session Jan. 25
There will be a Red Cross volunteer information session on Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., at 325 E. Fourth St., Jamestown.
The public invited to learn about programs and services and explore ways to support the Red Cross as a volunteer. Opportunities available include Disaster Services, Blood Services, Service to the Armed Forces and Health and Safety Services.

Chautauqua Lecture Series to appear on Access Channel 5
Access Channel 5 will be airing the 2016 Chautauqua Institution lecture series.
The following lecture will start on Saturday, with the last airing on Jan. 27:
≤ 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. — John Shelby Spong, “Judas Iscariot: Myth or History.”
Access Channel 5 is available to cable viewers in the Chautauqua, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Sherman and Westfield areas, and can be found on channel 5 with a cable converter or on 5.3 on digital televisions without a cable converter.
The program may also be viewed after the initial airing at the station’s website http://ac5.weebly.com.
