Pavilion rental requests being accepted

The city of Dunkirk’s pavilion rental policy states that groups may register to rent pavilions beginning on Jan. 1.

City residents are able to start on Feb. 1 and non-residents can start on Feb. 15. To rent or for questions, stop in or call the city clerk’s office at 366-0452.

The Dunkirk Common Council recently amended its recycling and yard waste policy.

The city allows contractors to drop off brush at the highway garage with a permit. The cost of that permit has increased to $300 for the first vehicle and $150 for each additional vehicle owned and operated by the same contractor to be paid in advance.

Dunkirk Fire report for January

The Dunkirk Fire Department responded to a total of 193 calls in the month of January, an increase over the previous six years and 22 more calls than January 2016.

Those included 150 EMS, 22 still alarm, 15 box and six mutual aid calls. The department made 58 transports to local hospitals, just one fewer than last January.

Hanover Chamber speaker planned for Tuesday

Business owners and human-resource specialists are invited to a program on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Tom’s Family Restaurant (935 Allegany Road, Irving).

The Hanover Chamber of Commerce will host a speaker meeting with Tyler Gotowka from Lawley Insurance. He will discuss workers compensation, the increasing minimum wage and the Exempt Administrative Salary changes.

It isn’t necessary to be a Chamber member to attend. Soda and snacks will be provided.
