Western New York Genealogical Society Inc. (WNYGS) will host a program entitled “Genealogy 101” at the WNYGS March meeting.

The program will take place on March 18 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, Central Branch, Central Meeting Room, 1 Lafayette Circle, Buffalo. The event is free and open to the public.

Attendees can jump-start their genealogy with this introduction to family history research. They will learn basic genealogy concepts, the types of records used and an overview of the genealogy databases available through the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System.

The class will be taught by Rhonda Konig, a genealogy librarian for 14 years who currently serves as the genealogy specialist in the Grosvenor Room at the Central Library in Downtown Buffalo. She has a Master of Library Science from the University at Buffalo and a Bachelor of Arts in History from SUNY Geneseo.

Konig enjoys spreading her addiction to genealogy by teaching genealogy classes, assisting library patrons, and through her work as editor of the Western New York Genealogical Society JOURNAL.

Silver Creek garbage policy

Residents of the village of Silver Creek are reminded that trash must be placed inside of the designated Silver Creek garbage bags to be picked up. Bags cannot merely be tied to the cans.

For large items, such as unwanted or broken furniture, bags need to be attached, and only one large item will be picked up per week.

This information and more is on the village website and the recycling calendar.
