Post 1017 meeting

The John T. Murray Post 1017 in Dunkirk will be having its monthly meeting on Saturday at the Post. Note the time change to 1 p.m.

Final plans for the upcoming pork dinner to be held March 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. will be discussed. Veterans will pay $4.50, others $9. A bike and basket raffle will also be held.

The Post is accepting applications for membership to the auxiliary, which is open to males who have the proper papers to join. For information, call Pat, 341-1328, or stop by.

Hanover youth rec meeting

There will be a meeting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Hanover Town Hall, 68 Hanover St., Silver Creek to discuss forming a “Silver Creek-Hanover-Forestville Youth Recreation Program.”

Leaders and sponsors are needed to support year-round youth activities throughout the town of Hanover. Interested persons are encouraged to attend.

Maple Weekend events

Three Maple Weekend celebrations will be held in Northern Chautauqua County on March 18, 19, 25 and 26.

≤ Fairbanks Maple Pancake Breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. See everything from tree-to-jug … to pancake! Take a free tour of the production process, then indulge in an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast, including sausage, eggs, applesauce and beverages. Cost is $7.50 adults, $3.50 kids.

≤ Clear Creek Farms Maple Weekend Celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a free, family event with tours of the maple production process, horse-drawn wagon rides, product demonstrations and tastings.

≤ Johnson Estate Winery — Crepes in the winery will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sample Johnson Estate Winery’s Maple aperitif, made with Chautauqua County syrup, and enjoy freshly made French crepes drizzled with Big Tree Maple’s maple syrup and toasted nuts. The cost is $3 per person.

Bill Kuwik to appear on Fresh Perspectives

Gail Erb, host of Fresh Perspectives, will have guest Bill Kuwik on the program. The discussion will be about organic gardening. The show will air Saturday through March 24 at 3 and 9 p.m. each day.

Access Channel 5 is available to cable viewers in the Chautauqua, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Sherman and Westfield areas, and can be found on channel 5 with a cable converter or on 5.3 on digital televisions without a cable converter.

Todd Tranum to appear on Chautauqua Sunrise

Chautauqua Sunrise will feature Todd Tranum as the guest on Saturday. Tranum is president and chief executive officer of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce.

Host Doc Hamels will conduct the program. The program airs live from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday morning and is rebroadcast daily until Friday at 2 and 8 p.m. for some communities. The guest is subject to change.

Chautauqua Sunrise is shown live on Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems covering the following communities: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua, Fredonia, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. In Dunkirk, Falconer, Forestville, Hanover, Irving, Jamestown, Lakewood and Silver Creek, the program is on channel 19. Channel numbers are for subscribers using a cable converter. Digital channels for televisions without a converter will vary by community. The show originates at the Access Channel 5 studio in Mayville.

CCIDA committee

The County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency Audit Committee meeting will be held at 201 W. Third St., Jamestown, on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the boardroom (second floor).

Brocton Elementary School will issue registration packets for students eligible for the universal pre-k and kindergarten classes for the 2017-18 school year starting Monday and ending March 24 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Along with the completed packets, a copy of a birth certificate, documented immunization records and proof of residency are required.

To be eligible for pre-k, children must turn 4 on or before Dec. 1, 2017. To be eligible for kindergarten, children must turn 5 on or before Dec. 1, 2017. If there are questions, call 792-2100.

Brocton BOE seat

The Brocton Central School Board of Education is requesting petitions for those seeking a seat on the board.

Petitions are available in the district office. One seat is set to expire June 30. Petitions are due back to the district office by 5 p.m. on April 17.

Notice for Hanover water customers

Hanover water customers are notified that the last day to pay water bills without penalty is March 21.

Late payments will be charged a 10 percent penalty fee.

Payments may be made in the Hanover Town Clerk’s office at the town hall during regular business hours.
