Cassadaga Job Corps sets information session

The Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host a tour and informational session for interested applicants and their families on Thursday.

The Academy offers no-cost career training in the healthcare, construction and security industries, as well as classes to prepare to take the TASC or obtain a high school diploma.

The training programs include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, certified nurse assistant and security. In addition, the Academy also offers the Job Corps Advanced Training program for LPN, in partnership with BOCES. In order to enroll, applicants must be 16-24 years old, meet income guidelines and demonstrate readiness to embark on a rigorous and demanding training program.

Job Corps will provide the courses described above, as well as a comprehensive career preparation curriculum to ensure graduates are ready to enter the labor market, and the services include job placement services upon completion.

Dunkirk City Hall

closed Friday

Dunkirk City Hall will be closed this Friday in observance of Good Friday. Rubbish in the Friday collection zone will be picked up as usual on Friday.

Channel 5 to air Triangle Chautauqua Luncheon

Deborah Sunya Moore was the featured speaker at the annual Triangle Chautauqua Luncheon held recently in Raleigh, North Carolina. The presentation concerned the 2017 season arts programs at Chautauqua Institution. Deborah serves as vice president and director of programming at Chautauqua Institution.

Produced by John Viehe, the program will be shown on Access Channel 5 at 4 and 10 p.m. each day, beginning April 15, with the last airing on April 21.

Access Channel 5 is available to cable viewers in the Chautauqua, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Sherman and Westfield areas, and can be found on channel 5 with a cable converter or on 5.3 on digital televisions without a cable converter.

Carrie Gifford to appear on Chautauqua Sunrise

Chautauqua Sunrise will feature Carrie Gifford as the guest on April 15. Gifford will discuss culinary arts.

Guest host Jeff Zook will conduct the program. The program airs live from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday morning and is rebroadcast daily until Friday at 2 and 8 p.m. for some communities. The guest is subject to change.

Chautauqua Sunrise is shown live on Saturday mornings on Time Warner Cable systems covering the following communities: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua, Fredonia, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. In Dunkirk, Falconer, Forestville, Hanover, Irving, Jamestown, Lakewood and Silver Creek the program is on channel 19. Channel numbers shown are for subscribers using a cable converter. Digital channels for televisions without a converter will vary by community. The show originates at the Access Channel 5 studio in Mayville.
