Announcement expected regarding county executive race

SILVER CREEK — Today, April 19, at 2 p.m. Chautauqua County Legislator George Borrello will be making a significant announcement concerning the November 2017 election for Chautauqua County Executive.

Legislator Borrello (R-Hanover) will be making the announcement at the Silver Creek Firemen’s Club, 21 Jackson Street, Silver Creek, NY 14081.

Pomfret clerk’s office closing early

The Pomfret town clerk’s office will be closing at noon today for a county municipal clerks’ meeting.

Cassadaga Job Corps announces information session

The Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host a tour and informational session for interested applicants and their families on Thursday, April 20. The Academy offers no-cost career training in the healthcare, construction, and security industries as well as classes to prepare to take the TASC or obtain a high school diploma. The training programs include Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, Painting, Certified Nurse Assistant, and Security. In addition the Academy also offers the Job Corps Advanced Training program for LPN, in partnership with BOCES. In order to enroll applicants must be 16-24 years old, meet income guidelines, and demonstrate readiness to embark on a rigorous and demanding training program. Job Corps will provide the courses described above, as well as a comprehensive career preparation curriculum to ensure graduates are ready to enter the labor market, and the services include job placement services upon completion. Ripley Board of Education to meet Thursday

A regular meeting of the board of education of the Ripley Central School District will be held on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., in the Research Library of the Ripley Central School for the purpose of any and all items that come before the board.

STAR deadline May 1 in Dunkirk

The STAR Program filing date for the city of Dunkirk is May 1. This date applies to the city of Dunkirk only.

Who needs to apply for Enhanced STAR? Residents who are turning 65 in 2017 and have a total household income of $86,000 or less. You will need a driver’s license and a copy or your most recent New York state income tax return to apply.

If you are 65 or older and do not file a New York state income tax, then you must come to the assessor’s office in city hall with all of your income statements annually. Income statements include Social Security statements, pension statements, salary or wage statements, bank or bond interest statements and income from rental property.

New home owners need to apply for Basic STAR online at or by calling the state at (518 ) 457-2036.
