representative to visit Dunkirk

A representative from the New York State Comptroller’s Office will visit Dunkirk on July 28 in order to help residents of the 14048 zip code reclaim $1.7 million in owed funds. The representative will be helping residents see if they or a family member are owed money by the state from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the mayor’s conference room on the second floor of city hall.

Fredonia-Pomfret summer rec

program starts Monday

The Fredonia-Pomfret Recreation Department will begin staffing the six area playgrounds beginning Monday at 9 a.m.

Russell Joy Park and the playgrounds at Lambert Avenue, Gardner Street and Barker Street will be staffed from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 5 p.m. The Elm Street and Laona playgrounds will only be staffed from 1 to 5 p.m.

In addition to the playgrounds, instructional activities will be available in swimming, pickleball, tennis, karate, sewing and drama.

Registration will take place on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon on the second floor of village hall.

Fredonia Police release May report

The Fredonia Police Department has released its monthly report for May.

A total of 616 incidents were reported. There were 18 accidents, 36 reported arrests, 23 Vehicle and Traffic Law cases and 41 parking tickets issued.

Dunkirk High School graduation

Dunkirk Senior High School commencement exercises will be held in King Concert Hall on the campus of the State University of New York at Fredonia Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Please allow extra time for parking due to construction. A ticket will be required for admission.

Students will participate in the traditional courtyard procession and bell ringing ceremony that will begin at Dunkirk High School at 9:15 p.m.

Portland Planning Board to meet

The town of Portland Planning Board will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. at 87 W. Main St., Brocton.

Perrysburg Conservation Club to Sponsor Children’s Fishing Derby Saturday

The Perrysburg Conservation Club will sponsor a children’s fishing derby on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at Peck Hill Road, Perrysburg.

Kids under 15 can fish in the pond and compete in various categories for prizes. They must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-register by calling Tracy Wendel at 560-8914. Kids are encouraged to bring their fishing rods and have some fun.
