Dunkirk proclaims Thursday ‘Wastewater and Collection System Operator Day’

Whereas the safety, health and well being of any community is greatly dependent upon the vital services and facilities provided by the Public Works Department and more specifically our wastewater treatment facilities; and

Whereas the effectiveness of these services rests heavily with the administrative technical abilities of the person in charge; and

Whereas like many utility services, wastewater is underappreciated — until something goes wrong; and

Whereas the dedicated men and women that work in our wastewater plants 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year to protect public health and the environment; and

Whereas this record of reliability is largely credited to the hard work of our wastewater employees;

Now therefore, I, Wilfred Rosas, by virtue of the authority vested in me as mayor of the city of Dunkirk, do hereby proclaim Thursday, July 13, 2017 as “Wastewater and Collection System Operator Day” in the city of Dunkirk and urge all citizens to give proper recognition to wastewater operators for their commitment and dedicated service to our community and the safety and well-being of all our residents.
