Access Channel 5 programming for the upcoming week

The Chautauqua lecture airing this week is Hava Tirosh-Samuelson, “A Critique of Transhumanist Futurism” at 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Chautauqua Sunrise, hosted by Doc Hamels, will feature Kirk Young from Jamestown Community College as his guest. The program airs live county-wide on various access channels at 9 a.m. on Saturday only, then repeats at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Access Channel 5.

Chautauqua People features guest Tom Becker, past president of Chautauqua Institution. Becker was the 17th president and served from November 2003 until January 2016. The show is hosted by John Viehe and will air at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Mayville’s July 4th Parade will be covered live beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4.

All programming starts today and runs through Friday, July 7.

Access Channel 5 is available to cable viewers in the Chautauqua, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Sherman, and Westfield areas, and can be found on channel 5 with a cable converter or on 5.3 on digital televisions without a cable converter.

The programs may also be viewed after the initial airing at the station’s web site, http://accesschau tauquacountytv.org.

Fundraiser for Merle Millin planned for Monday

A fundraiser to help with funeral/medical expenses for 15-year-old accident victim Merle Millin will take place Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Brocton Fire Hall, 80 Lake St.

The event will include a car wash, bake sale and raffles. Donations of baskets, baked goods, etc. are being sought. Contact Elaine Caldwell at 672-7661.

Anyone who needs counseling services due to this tragic incident may contact Chautauqua County Mental Health at 363-3550.

Evans fireworks canceled

The Lake Erie Beach Park fireworks in the town of Evans slated for Monday has been canceled by the private event organizer.

In addition, all road closures previously scheduled have been canceled and all roads will remain open on Monday.

County Planning Board to meet

The Chautauqua County Planning Board’s monthly meeting will be on Tuesday, July 11 at 4 p.m. in the large-group room of the Erie 2 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES LoGuidice Educational Center, located at 9520 Fredonia Stockton Road, Fredonia.

All meetings of the County Planning Board are open to the public.
