Unions urged to aid relief

Doug Stock, president of the Dunkirk Labor Council, urges all affiliated unions in the area to donate to the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. “We helped out with the water from Flint, we would like to do the same for the victims in Texas,” Stock said

Stock said union members can donate to local efforts or can go to the American Red Cross by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

New location for Fredonia school tax collection

Community Bank, located at 3909 Vineyard Drive, Dunkirk, is the official school tax collection depository and site for the 2017-2018 Fredonia Central School tax collection period. The hours for the collection of school tax payments will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays, starting Sept. 6, and ending on Nov. 1.

Cherry Creek food pantry open Mondays

The Twice Fed Food Pantry in Cherry Creek is open the first four Mondays of each month from 7 a.m. to noon. If food is needed, call in by 9 a.m. at 296-5213. For emergency food, call Betty Milspaw at 640-8275 or Pattie Lukaszewski at 296-1005 or 338-8429.

The Twice Fed Food Pantry in Cherry Creek will not be open on Monday, Sept. 4 due to the holiday. Instead, it will be open on Tuesday, Sept. 5 to serve the clients.

Free Community Yard Sale Saturday

There will be a free community yard sale this Saturday at Cross Roads Farm & Craft Market, 6017 Sherman-Westfield Road in Westfield. Any yard sale or flea market items are permitted to set up for free in the parking lot or pavilion from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Applebees hosting Camp Gross fundraiser Saturday

Camp Gross Board of Directors will be hosting the annual Applebee’s Pancake Breakfast at the Vineyard Drive location on Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. This event helps us pay the maintenance costs and the upkeep on the cabins and the lodge. Please come and support Camp Gross in this worthwhile project. Many of the boys and girls from the City of Dunkirk depend on the facility for summertime fun.

Forestville Central School public hearing Wednesday

The Forestville Central School will hold a public hearing regarding the District School Safety Plan at 3 p.m. on Sept. 6 in the Elementary Cafeteria.

Forestville Board of Education meeting Thursday

The Forestville Central School District Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, Sept. 7 in the High School Library at 5 p.m.
