Cassadaga Job Corps announces sessions, tour date

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host tours and information sessions for interested applicants and their families this Thursday.

They will start at 8:30 a.m. and again at 10 a.m. Cassadaga Job Corps Academy offers no-cost career training in the healthcare, construction and security industries as well as classes to prepare to take the TASC or obtain a high school diploma. Career training programs include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, Certified Nurse Assistant and security.

In addition, the Academy also offers a Job Corps Advanced Training program for LPN, in partnership with BOCES. In order to enroll in Job Corps, applicants must be 16-24 years old and meet income and other guidelines, as well as demonstrate readiness to embark on a rigorous and demanding training program. Job Corps will provide the courses described above, as well as a comprehensive career preparation curriculum to ensure graduates are ready to enter the labor market.

Services for graduates include job placement assistance and transition money. To reserve a spot on a tour or to inquire about admissions, contact the Cassadaga Job Corps Academy by calling 595-4200 and asking for the admissions office.

Family Open Swim sessions cancelled at Dunkirk High School pool

Until further notice, staff will not be holding Family Open Swim on Fridays from 7-9 p.m. at the Dunkirk High School pool.

Spaghetti dinner to benefit hurricane victims set for Saturday

An “All You Can Eat” Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser for hurricane victims will be held this Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Salvation Army at 83 S. Main St., Jamestown. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 5 years. Presale tickets will be available at a savings of $1 each. Villenova Burial Association Upcoming Meeting Oct. 3

The Villenova Burial Associations’ Annual/Fall Meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at the Villenova Town Hall, 1094 Butcher Road, South Dayton. The association trustees and sexton oversee the operation of Villenova Cemetery. Partial agenda to include election of officers, discussion of finances, lot holds and service charges. Trustees, sexton and lot owners are asked to attend.

Blessing of the Animals set for Saturday

Blessing of the Animals will be held this Saturday in Moore Park at Westfield. Feel free to bring your beloved pets and animals for a special Blessing from the Rev. Virginia Carr of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. The event begins at 11 a.m.
