Rabies immunization clinics set for October

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services Division of Public Health has announced the following free rabies vaccination clinics in Chautauqua County:

¯ Gerry town garage, from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 14. Veterinarian is Dr. Katie Ball. Sponsored by the Town of Gerry.

¯ Pomfret town highway garage, 9639 Chautauqua Road, Fredonia, from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 21. Ball is veterinarian. Sponsored by the Town of Pomfret.

Hurricane Maria relief now collecting clothes

The Hurricane Maria relief collection for victims in Puerto Rico is now accepting gently used and new clothing after reports of a need for it. Please keep in mind that it is a tropical climate. Donations of water, canned food toiletries and baby items are also being accepted at the city of Dunkirk’s drop off at the warehouse on the corner of Washington Avenue and Lake Shore Drive from 3 to 7 p.m. every day. Monetary donations are also being accepting in the clerk’s office or the development department in the Stearns building. Donations will be accepted until at least Friday. Any help is appreciated. Volunteers may still sign up in the clerk’s office.

Citizens for a Better Cassadaga will meet today

The Citizens for a Better Cassadaga will have its monthly meeting today at 7 p.m. at Cassadaga Library, 18 Maple Ave. Just prior to the meeting, there will be a short walking tour of the downtown area beginning at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of this tour is to view the recently completed beautification project made possible from the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation Neighborhood Pride Grant. Volunteers will be recognized and refreshments will follow in the library.

Fredonia-Pomfret Democratic Party to host Meet and Greet

On Friday, Oct. 13, the Fredonia-Pomfret Democratic Party will host a Meet and Greet for our Democratic candidates at the Fredonia Grange No. 1 on Main Street, Fredonia, from 5 until 7 p.m.

The purpose of the Meet and Greet is to give voters the chance to meet and speak with the Democratic candidates. On hand, there will be candidates for county, town and village elections as well as 2018 Congressional candidates.

It is important to know your candidates prior to an election. This is a great opportunity to get to know who best represents your goals for our region.

This get together is also a tailgate party for the Badger/Marauder Football game. Treats and drinks will be supplied for your enjoyment.

Cassadaga Job Corps Announces Information Sessions and Tours

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host tours and information sessions for interested applicants and their families today.

They will start at 8:30 a.m. and again at 10 a.m. Cassadaga Job Corps Academy offers no-cost career training in the healthcare, construction, and security industries as well as classes to prepare to take the TASC or obtain a high school diploma. career training programs include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, Certified Nurse Assistant and security. In addition, the Academy also offers a Job Corps Advanced Training program for LPN, in partnership with BOCES. In order to enroll in Job Corps, applicants must be 16-24 years old and meet income and other guidelines, as well as demonstrate readiness to embark on a rigorous and demanding training program. Job Corps will provide the courses described above, as well as a comprehensive career preparation curriculum to ensure graduates are ready to enter the labor market. Services for graduates include job placement assistance and transition money. Dunkirk BOE

to meet today

The Dunkirk Board of Education will hold a workshop and a meeting today. The workshop begins at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at School 3, 742 Lamphere St. The regular October meeting will immediately follow beginning at 6:15 p.m. The workshop and regular meeting are open to the public.

County Board of Health to meet Oct. 19

The Chautauqua County Board of Health will hold its meeting on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. in the HRC Building, 4th Floor Conference Room, 7 N. Erie St., Mayville.
