Meet the Republican

candidates planned for Oct. 21

A Meet the Republican candidates session/fund-raiser for Fredonia Village Board, Pomfret Town Board, County Legislators and County Executive is planned for Oct. 21 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Fredonia Grange No. 1, 58 W. Main St., Fredonia. The Fredonia Village Board Republican candidates are Doug Essek, Roger Britz Jr. and Dale Ricker. The Pomfret Town Board Republican candidate is Mike Reynolds. The Chautauqua County Republican Legislative candidates are Bob Scudder and Terry Niebel. The Chautauqua County Executive Republican candidate is George Borrello.

A continental breakfast will be provided.

Fredonia Board of Education to meet

The next regular Fredonia Board of Education meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m. in the High School Library. The public is welcome to attend.

Hanover to flush fire hydrants starting Oct. 23

HANOVER — The Hanover Water and Wastewater Department will begin flushing fire hydrants in the Hanover and the hamlet of Forestville the week of Oct. 23. Employees will be conducting this flushing during the hours of 8 p.m. to Midnight. It is expected to take anywhere from two to three weeks to complete the work.

During this time residents may experience a slight drop in water pressure along with minimal discoloration. The water will remain safe for consumption during this process.

Temple Street to close Friday

On Friday, Temple Street will be closed from Main Street to Central Avenue in the village of Fredonia. Also, Lambert Street will be closed from Temple to Day Street. There will be no through traffic allowed.

Forestville Central School Board of Ed to meet today

The Forestville Central School District Board of Education will hold the following committee meetings today in the Superintendent’s office: Policy 3:30 p.m.; Legislative 4:30 p.m.; Staff Recognition 5:30 p.m.

DHS Class of 2019 “La Casa D’Mangia Texas BBQ” set for today

The Dunkirk High School Class of 2019 will hold a “La Casa D’Mangia Texas BBQ” today from 3 to 9 p.m. in the Dunkirk High School Cafe. Use the school main entrance. The menu consists of a three meats barbecue dinner that includes pork, chicken and beef, plus beans, cole slaw and a roll. The cost is $10 per person. Tickets are available at Big Rick’s One Stop Food Mart, 327 Lake Shore Drive E., Dunkirk or at the door.

Revitalize Dunkirk meeting today

The monthly meeting of Revitalize Dunkirk will be held on Thursday, Oct. 19 at the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Balloting for election to the founding board of directors for the organization will be completed along with other organization business. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Membership applications and T-shirts will be available. All members of the community are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Cassadaga Job Corps t hold information

sessions, tours today

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host tours and information sessions for interested applicants and their families today. They will start at 8:30 a.m. and again at 10 a.m. Cassadaga Job Corps Academy offers no-cost career training in the healthcare, construction, and security industries as well as classes to prepare to take the TASC or obtain a high school diploma. Career training programs include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, Certified Nurse Assistant and security. In addition, the Academy also offers a Job Corps Advanced Training program for LPN, in partnership with BOCES. In order to enroll in Job Corps, applicants must be 16-24 years old and meet income and other guidelines, as well as demonstrate readiness to embark on a rigorous and demanding training program. Job Corps will provide the courses described above, as well as a comprehensive career preparation curriculum to ensure graduates are ready to enter the labor market. Services for graduates include job placement assistance and transition money.

Portland Planning Board to meet Oct. 24

PORTLAND — The Town of Portland Planning Board will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at 87 W. Main Street. The public is welcome to attend.
