meeting for Portland Fire District set for Jan. 22
The reorganizational meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Portland Fire District will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 22. It will be immediately followed by the regular meeting. In addition, a workshop session of the board will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 15 for the purpose of review of the insurance coverage for the district and any other business that may be brought before the board. As with all meetings of the district, the public is welcome to attend.
Middle School to hold Geography Bee Jan. 10
The Fredonia Middle School will hold its Geography Bee Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 1:15 p.m. at the high school auditorium.
Construction may be heard in 1st Ward today
Residents in the 1st Ward in the City may experience reoccurring loud noises starting this morning, beginning at 7 a.m. and lasting until approximately 3 p.m. for approximately three or four days due to scheduled construction happening at the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
Middle School to hold Spelling bee
The Fredonia Middle School will hold its spelling bee this Thursday, Jan. 4, at 1:15 at the high school auditorium.

The next Village of Silver Creek Board meeting will be held today at 7 p.m. at the Town of Hanover Board Room, 68 Hanover St.
Fredonia Board of Education to meet
The next regular board of education meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 6 p.m. in the high school library.
Coffee with Mayor Landis Wednesday
Fredonia Mayor Athanasia Landis invites members of the public to her Village Hall office on the first Wednesday of every month between 9 and 10 a.m. to discuss any and all issues and concerns. Coffee and/or tea will be provided.
Chautauqua County Beekeepers Association
The January meeting of the Chautauqua County Beekeepers Association will be held this Thursday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Frank Bratt Ag Center, Turner Road, Airport Hill, Jamestown.
Topics include: update on the 2018 Bee Improvement Project, update on the Apiary Expansion Project, availability of bees for the 2018 season and general CCBA business
The meeting is open to all interested in beekeeping whether a beginning beekeeper or an experienced beekeeper and all are welcome.
