City Pier Improvement Project meeting set

Mayor Rosas would like to invite the public to attend the final concept designs for the City’s Pier Improvements Project. The public meeting will be held during the Planning and Development Department’s Economic Development Meeting today at 4 p.m. in the Mayor’s Conference Room of City Hall.”

Workshop and special meeting

Silver Creek Village Board will be holding a workshop today at 9 a.m. A special meeting of the village board is scheduled for Thursday, June 28 at 9 a.m. to open the bids for the I&I Project Phase 3.

Dunkirk School Library to hold vote for trustee seats today

The Dunkirk School Library will be holding a vote today for two library trustee seats with three-year terms ending June 2022. James Palmatier is the only name on the ballot. Voters will have the opportunity to write in a candidate for the seats. Voters will have an opportunity to fill out ballots at the library, located at 536 Central Ave. from noon to 8 p.m. today.

Planning Zoning Workshop

The Town of Dunkirk Zoning and Planning Boards will hold a workshop at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Town Hall, 4737 Willow Road. The purpose of the workshop is to continue with revisions to the Town Zoning Code.

Food Pantry

The Brocton/Portland Food Pantry, serving the Brocton Central School District, located at 7081 East Route 20, Westfield, is open:

Every Tuesday and Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. and every Wednesday 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The pantry is closed on holidays.

The Express Food Pantry Truck is there the Last Thursday of the month – sign-up begins at 1 p.m.

Chautauqua County Weavers Guild meeting and program for June 23

The Chautauqua County Weavers Guild will meet on June 23 at 10 a.m. at the, Westfield YWCA, 58 S. Portage St. This month’s topic is: “Tools — What’s necessary for weaving and what are the extras.” Anyone interested in learning to weave or joining the Guild is welcome to attend meetings. South Dayton

Legion news

The South Dayton Legion, located at 4 Mill St., South Dayton, is planning several special events during the coming weeks.

On Saturday, June 26, the Legion will hold a summer barbecue meat raffle starting at 7 p.m. A $1 donation will be accepted for a hot dog, soda and chips.

On Saturday, July 7 the Legion will be holding a pool tournament. Sign-ins begin at 4 p.m. The cost is $10 per person. Bar foods will be available.

Sheridan Historical Society open house and meeting

Sheridan Historical Society, located at the corner of Route 20 and Center Road, will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. for visitors on Monday, June 25. The regular monthly meeting will follow at 7 p.m. The society will also be open July 30 and Aug. 27 prior to meetings during the same hours, as well as by appointment. All are welcome. Villenova Public Hearing Ball Hill Wind Turbine Project

An important public hearing will be held by the Town Board of Villenova on Tuesday, June 26 at 7 p.m. at the Hamlet United Methodist Church, 328 Pine St., South Dayton, to hear public comments on proposed changes to the Ball Hill Wind Turbine energy project.

Chautauqua County Antique Equipment Association meeting set for June 26

The Chautauqua County Antique Equipment Association will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 26 at 7 p.m. at the CCAEA Club grounds, Cemetery Road, Stockton. All members and prospective members urged to attend.

Cassadaga Legion Post 1280 cruise nights set

Cassadaga Legion Post Squadron 1280 is planning a series of Cruise Nights to be held the third Wednesday of the month from May through September from 6 to 9 p.m. The dates are June 20, July 18, Aug. 15 and Sept. 19. The events will be held at Cassadaga Legion Post 1280, 228 Maple Ave., Cassadaga from 6 to 9 p.m. and will feature music, food, 50/50, cool cars and fun! For details, call the Legion at 595-3145.

Son’s of the American Legion, Squad 59 steak and shrimp bingo June 21

The Son’s of the American Legion, Squad 59, will be holding a steak and shrimp bingo fundraiser, on Thursday, June 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Post 59, 156 E. Main St., Fredonia. There will be 10 rounds of 2 steaks and 1 pound of shrimp bingo, plus a separate family dinner raffle will also be held which includes 6 steaks, one pound of shrimp and all the fixings. Two additional bonus rounds featuring Alex & Ani bracelets donated by Kirk’s Jewelers and Nancy York will also be held. SAL Squad 59 Commander Rod Dziduch will call the bingo. All other proceeds from the evening assist with Post 59 veteran functions and Boys’ and Girls’ State sponsorships. Members and guests are welcome.

Community Blood Bank Blood Drive June 30

The Mayville Community Outreach Initiative, located at 32 S. Erie St., Mayville, is hosting a blood drive for the Community Blood Bank on Saturday, June 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This organization has chosen to work exclusively with CBB because donations stay local. That means that donors might be helping out a family member, a friend, or a neighbor right in their own back yard.

One must be 18 or older to donate, or 16 to 18 with a parent/guardian. Make sure to eat before coming in to donate. Donors will be entered in for a chance to win one of two prizes.
