Prayer Vigil against the forced separation of children

In conjunction with our Bishop’s activities, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 12 Elm St., Westfield, will be open all day for a Prayer Vigil today. This is in response to the forced separation of children in America. The Rt. Rev. William Franklin will be visiting and appealing to Washington, as well as holding a prayer vigil. All are welcome to come in and join us as we pray and take a stand against this countries unconscionable behavior towards innocent children.

High School

exercises

Dunkirk Senior High School commencement exercises will be held in King Concert Hall on the campus of Fredonia State University on Saturday, June 23 at 10:30 a.m. Please allow extra time for parking due to construction. A ticket will be required for admission.

Students will participate in the traditional courtyard procession and bell ringing ceremony that will begin at the Dunkirk High School at 9:15 a.m.

CCIDA board meeting

The board meeting of the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA) Board of Directors will be held at Eason Hall, 23 Elm St., Westfield, on Tuesday, June 26 at 10 a.m.

Tom Reed to hold remote office hours in Dunkirk June 26

Congressman Tom Reed’s staff will hold remote office hours in Dunkirk on Tuesday, June 26, from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

The meeting will be in the conference room at the Dunkirk City Hall, 342 Central Ave., Dunkirk.

Staff will be available to answer questions, gather feedback and provide assistance with Medicare, Social Security, veterans’ benefits and other issues related to federal agencies.

Revitalize Dunkirk to meet today

The June meeting of Revitalize Dunkirk will be held today, at the Fredonia State University Technology Incubator, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk. The scheduled speaker is Michele Starwalt, Director of Chautauqua Striders North County, an organization dedicated to the mentoring and guidance of youth through education, advocacy, and athletics. The guest speaker’s presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. with a Revitalize Dunkirk meeting agenda to follow. Revitalize Dunkirk is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization of community members committed to bringing ideas for improved urban living to residents and elected officials of the City of Dunkirk. All members of the community are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Son’s of the American Legion to host Steak, shrimp bingo

The Son’s of the American Legion, Squad 59, will be holding a Steak and Shrimp Bingo fundraiser today, from 7- 9 p.m. at Post 59, 156 E Main St., Fredonia. Ten rounds of two steaks and one pound of shrimp bingo plus a separate family dinner raffle will also be held, this includes six steaks, one pound of shrimp and all the fixings. Two additional bonus rounds featuring Alex & Ani bracelets donated by Kirk’s Jewelers and Nancy York will also be held.

SAL Squad 59 Commander Rod Dziduch will call the bingo. All other proceeds from the evening assist with Post 59 veteran functions and Boy’s and Girl’s State sponsorships. Member and guest welcome.

South Dayton

Legion news

The South Dayton Legion, located at 4 Mill St., South Dayton, is planning several special events during the coming weeks.

On Saturday, June 26, the Legion will hold a summer barbecue meat raffle starting at 7 p.m. A $1 donation will be accepted for a hot dog, soda and chips.

On Saturday, July 7 the Legion will be holding a pool tournament. Sign-ins begin at 4 p.m. The cost is $10 per person. Bar foods will be available.

Chiavetta’s chicken barbecues scheduled to Benefit CASAC

Mark the calendars for Chautauqua Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council’s two Chiavetta chicken barbecues. The Jamestown event will be held on Saturday, June 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Jamestown Jammers field, 485 Falconer St. The North County chicken barbecue dinner will be held on Monday, July 2 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at the First Ward Falcons Club, 341 Lake Shore Drive E. in Dunkirk. All tickets are $10 and will be available through any CASAC Board or staff member, or by calling 366-4623 or 664-3608.

48th annual Nashville picnic set

The 48th annual Nashville Picnic will be held on Thursday, July 19 at noon at 195 Route 39 in Nashville, N.Y. Jo Anne and Fred Holdridge will be hosting the picnic again this year at their home.

Those attending should bring a dish to pass, table service, and beverage. There will not be an auction this year. A free-will offering will be taken in place of the auction. All present and former Nashville residents are welcome to attend.
