Living Healthy program coming to Fredonia

Living Healthy with Diabetes is a chronic disease self-management program, which was created by Stanford University and is designed for people wanting to better manage their diabetes. It is also suitable for individuals who are pre-diabetic or anyone wanting to make positive lifestyle changes. This proven successful program is being held at the Fredonia First United Methodist Church, 25 Church St., Fredonia, starting on Aug. 1 and will be offered each Wednesday for six weeks from 9 to 11 a.m. The Living Healthy program will be free of charge to participants, but space is limited and pre-registration is required. To register or for more information, call Chautauqua County Health Network at 338-0010 ext. 1207.

City to host two forums for comprehensive plan

The city of Dunkirk will hold two workshops on its comprehensive plan to gather feedback from the public. The first workshop will be held Tuesday, July 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Iglesias Getsemani, located at 115 Central Ave. The second workshop will be held July 31 from 4-8 p.m. at the Kozciuszko Club, located at 252 Nevins St. Both workshops will feature the same materials related to the comprehensive plan. The room will be set up with different boards to make it interactive so attendees can provide comments on certain locations in the city that need improvements.

Westfield Recreation news

Family-oriented movies in the park are planned for Friday, Aug. 3 at Moore Park in Westfield, and Friday, Aug. 17 at Welch Field in Westfield. All movies will start at dusk.

The Tour of Chautauqua will take place Aug. 11. beginning at 9 a.m. There are optional lengths to choose from. The 25 mile tour follows the Lake Erie Plain, starting and ending at Moore Park, in Westfield. Check in and register between 7:30 and 8:45 a.m. Registration takes place at Eason Hall, 23 Elm St., across from Moore Park. The tours pass through several small towns where food can be purchased. Light meal provided at the finish across the street at the Episcopal Church. Water stops will be provided along the 40, 62, 75 and 100 mile tours. Registration will be $28. This is a recreational tour; not a race. Bicycle helmets are required.

NCCS to present “A Celebration of the Angels”

Northern Chautauqua Catholic School will present “A Celebration of the Angels” during a special mass to honor their angel benefactors on Sunday, Aug. 5, at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, located at 1032 Central Ave. Join NCCS in their prayer of thanksgiving, and meet the “angels” and express your gratitude! Refreshments will follow in the school gym following mass.

Cardinal Mindszenty High School all years reunion

Alumni of CMHS will again gather for this biennial event on Saturday, Aug. 4 at the American Legion Post 62 on lower Central Avenue in Dunkirk. Graduates from 1955 through 1979 are encouraged to attend and share memories, refreshments, music of the era and light entertainment. Spouses, significant others and friends are also invited to this informal event, which will begin at 7 p.m. Spread the word.

Fredonia Beaver Club Party on the Hill Super Car Cruise set for Wednesday

The Fredonia Beaver Club Party on the Hill will feature a Super Car Cruise on Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 4 to 9 p.m. at 64 Prospect St., Fredonia. The event will take place rain or shine. In addition, there will be entertainment with DJ Joe McCaffrey.
