Living with Dementia

Education Series in Sinclairville

BUFFALO — A special three-part series of educational programs created and delivered by the Alzheimer’s Association Western New York Chapter is ideal for those living with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia and their care partners. Park United Methodist Church, 49 Sinclair Drive, Sinclairville, will host “Living with Alzheimer’s” on three consecutive Tuesdays in August (Aug. 7, 14, and 21 at 11 a.m.). The program will offer tips for living well with dementia and help care partners provide safe, effective and comfortable care. Guidance on improving communication, managing behavioral changes and the importance of self-care will also be discussed.

NCCS to present “A Celebration of the Angels”

Northern Chautauqua Catholic School will present “A Celebration of the Angels” during a special mass to honor their angel benefactors on Sunday, Aug. 5, at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, located at 1032 Central Ave. Join NCCS in their prayer of thanksgiving, and meet the “angels” and express your gratitude! Refreshments will follow in the school gym following mass.

Rural Ministry Healthy Heart

Workshop scheduled for today

The next Healthy Heart workshop is scheduled for 5 p.m. today at the Friendly Kitchen, 127 Central Ave., Dunkirk for an evening of food, crafts and fun. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to share in the making of a craft and sampling healthy foods.

The Friendly Kitchen is open to local adults, families, children and parents to join in a healthy eating evening to sample homemade soups and wraps from healthy food items including chicken, tuna, fruit, nuts, dried fruit, and fresh and roasted vegetables. This month, sample two cold soups and a variety of cold roll-ups.

There will be a drawing at 5:30 p.m. for adult participants for a new kitchen or nutrition related item. Participants must sign in at the door to be eligible for a chance for the giveaway.

The Healthy Heart Workshops are generally scheduled for the first Thursday of the month at 5 p.m. Each event will last about 90 minutes and is offered free of charge. There is limited seating for the workshops, so call the Rural Ministry, or email for a reserved seat.

Volunteers needed for principal interviews

The Gowanda Central School District is seeking additional parent volunteers to serve on the High School Principal Interview Committee.
