Alzheimer’s Association Western New York Chapter presents: Effective Communication Strategies

Valley Historical Society to meet

The Valley Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 7 for its annual picnic meeting. The meeting will be held in the Sinclairville ballpark beginning at 6 p.m. All attending are asked to bring a dish of food to pass and their own drink and table service. After dinner, the program of the evening will be “Treasure Trove.” All attending are asked to bring something of interest that they can tell of the history of the item. Anyone interested in local history is invited to attend. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month.

Cassadaga National Night Out

Tuesday, Aug. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m., the Village of Cassadaga will celebrate National Night Out. This is a national community-building campaign that promotes police-fire-community partnerships that serve to make our communities safer. This event will be held at the Cassadaga Beach (in case of rain, the Cassadaga Community Building.) There will be games, food, local fire/police exhibits and information for all ages. This event is presented by the Citizens for Better Cassadaga, Cassadaga Job Corp, Cassadaga Fire Department, New York State Police and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department.

Gowanda’s Historic Hollywood Theater Golf Tournament

Gowanda’s Historic Hollywood Theater Golf Tournament will take place today at the Gowanda Country Club, 2623 Brown St., Collins. Registration is at 10, with an 11 a.m. shotgun start. The format is four-person scramble. Each player tees off on every hole. The best of the team’s shots is selected and all players play their next shot from that spot. Play continues this way until the ball is holed. Handicaps will not be used.

The cost is $100 per golfer, which includes 18 holes of golf, lunch at the turn, a buffet dinner, and prize opportunities. It is $30 for dinner only.

Road closure in Portland

PORTLAND — Barnes Road in the town of Portland will be closed to all thru traffic from Thayer Road to Prospect Station Road, today from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for blacktopping.
