Chautauqua County Department of Social Services retirees’ picnic

The Chautauqua County Department of Social Services (Services Division) retirees will hold their annual picnic on Wednesday. The picnic will be at the Carlson Community Building, Lakeside Park, 50 W. Lake Road, Mayville from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring a dish to share, own beverage and a lawn chair. Tableware will be provided. The picnic will be held “rain or shine.” Call Linda at 499-7421 if you have any questions.

Evans Garden Club to meet Aug. 14

The Evans Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m., on Tuesday. The meeting will be held at the Angola Library, 34 N. Main St., Angola. A rain garden presentation will be given by the Evans Town Engineer. All are invited to attend.

The Chautauqua Center Family Fun Day

The Chautauqua Center will sponsor a Family Fun Day in Dunkirk on Thursday at the Salvation Army, 704 Central Ave. from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will feature a backpack and school supply giveaway throughout the day, music, face painting, obstacle course. animal exhibit, food and a carnival. A parent/caregiver must be present with child/teen for the backpack giveaway. For more information, call 484-4334.

Silver Creek to repave Staff Avenue

The village of Silver Creek will be repaving Staff Avenue, Oak Street and Knight Street Extension starting between Aug. 16 and Aug. 20.

Chautauqua County Home retirees’ picnic set for Wednesday

The Chautauqua County Home retirees’ picnic will take place Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at Point Gratiot Park, Dunkirk in the same pavilion as last year. Bring a dish to pass, personal table service and $2 toward rental of the pavilion.

Silver Creek Republican Caucus

The Village of Silver Creek will be holding its caucus for the nomination of two village trustee seats for the November 2018 election. The caucus will be on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Village of Silver Creek Municipal Building Board Room at 172 Central Avenue Silver Creek. All eligible Republicans are invited to participate.

Kindergarten Skills Class set for Tuesday at Dunkirk Public Library

A Kindergarten Skills Class will be held on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Dunkirk Public Library, located at 536 Central Ave. Children entering Kindergarten can practice writing their name, letters and numbers, tying their shoes, scissor skills, and more. Handouts will be available for parents. This is a free event open to the public. For more information, call 366-2511.

“Celebrate Your Strengths Talent Show” Aug. 21

CASAC and HOPE Chautauqua will present: “Celebrate Your Strengths Talent Show!,” on Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds, 1089 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Contestants can be ages 8 to 17. The cost is $10 per participant. Divisions include Division 1 (ages 8 to 11), Division 2 (ages 12 to 14); Division 3 (ages 15 to 17). Categories are singing, dancing, instrument, variety. There will be prizes to win: first, second, third for each category in each division. Register at www.casacweb.org by Tuesday.
