Murray Hose Company No. 4 to meet Sept. 10

Murray Hose Company No. 4, which usually meets the first Monday of the month, will meet instead this month on Sept. 10, due to the Labor Day holiday. Members will meet at 7 p.m. at 104 W. Doughty St., Dunkirk. Several agenda items will be discussed.

Gold Star Mothers Department to visit in Silver Creek

The Gold Star Mothers Department of New York President Holly Baker will be at Silver Creek VFW Post 6472, Samuel Cimino Post, 13 Main St. on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 6 p.m.

President Baker will have handouts with information on the history, the service as well discuss many benefits of this great organization. Any questions will be answered.

The meeting is open to all Gold Star Mothers, VFW, American Legion, AM vets, Vietnam Vets, and their Auxiliaries.

This is the VFW Auxiliary special project this year, so this is a great time to get more information.

President Baker would like to get a charter in this area.

Westfield Quilters’ Guild 2018 Quilt Show planned for Sept. 7 and 8

The Westfield Quilters’ Guild 2018 Quilt Show, “A Silver Lining,” will celebrate the Guild’s 25th anniversary year on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8. The event will take place at the Westfield YWCA, 58 S. Portage St., Westfield from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. There is a $5 admission charge. There will be many quilts on display. Browse the boutique featuring handmade items, baked goods, and other items available for purchase; and take a chance on the raffle for one of the beautiful quilts from the guild.

Lakeshore Humane Society holds Pet Adoption Day Sept. 8

The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold a Pet Adoption Day/Open House at its Adoption Center on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 12 to 4 p.m. The center is located at 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk. Come to see the facility, and meet some of the dogs and cats who need caring homes.

If unable to come to an Adoption Day, call 672-1991 to arrange an appointment to see the dogs and cats awaiting adoption. (One must be 21 years of age or older to adopt a pet.) Also, LHS will hold an “Adoption Evening” on Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Dunkirk Citizens Advisory Board monthly meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room on the second floor.

Support Local Contestants at Toastmasters’ Humorous Speech and Evaluation Competition Sept. 12

Richard Friemann and Jim Rawcliffe from Fredonia are two of the contestants taking part in the Toastmasters’ Humorous Speaking and Evaluation contest to be held at SUNY Fredonia, Jewett Hall, Room 118 on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Rawcliffe, a long-time Toastmaster of over 20 years, has set his skills to outwit the competition in style. Together these two Fredonia residents are looking to take the club skills to the next level, to be located at the Jamestown Library on Saturday, Oct. 13.
