The Dunkirk Citizens Advisory Board monthly meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room on the second floor.

Support Local Contestants at Toastmasters’ Humorous Speech and Evaluation Competition Sept. 12

Richard Friemann and Jim Rawcliffe from Fredonia are two of the contestants taking part in the Toastmasters’ Humorous Speaking and Evaluation contest to be held at SUNY Fredonia, Jewett Hall, Room 118 on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Rawcliffe, a long-time Toastmaster of over 20 years, has set his skills to outwit the competition in style. Together these two Fredonia residents are looking to take the club skills to the next level, to be located at the Jamestown Library on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Westfield Quilters’ Guild 2018 Quilt Show planned for Friday, Saturday

The Westfield Quilters’ Guild 2018 Quilt Show, “A Silver Lining,” will celebrate the Guild’s 25th anniversary year on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8. The event will take place at the Westfield YWCA, 58 S. Portage St., Westfield from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. There is a $5 admission charge. There will be many quilts on display. Browse the boutique featuring handmade items, baked goods, and other items available for purchase; and take a chance on the raffle for one of the beautiful quilts from the guild.

Pillar of Fire Fellowship indoor yard sale set for Friday, Saturday

The Pillar of Fire Fellowship, 221 Lake Shore Drive W., Dunkirk is having an indoor yard sale on Friday, Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Joint Veteran’s Council. Raffle tickets will be sold for a fleece Marine Corps handmade blanket.

Silver Creek seeking Planning Board members

The village of Silver Creek is looking for replacing two members of their Planning Board. The board meets the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. It’s an open forum meeting, which means anyone in the public may attend. If someone is interested, they are encouraged to speak with current board members at one of these meetings.

South Dayton American Legion Post No. 1593 fund-raiser dinner set for Thursday

South Dayton American Legion Post No. 1593 will hold a fund-raiser dinner on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Post, 4 Mill St. The cost is $8 for a liver and onions dinner with sides or homemade mac-n-cheese with a deluxe hot dog on bun. Both dinners include salad and dessert. All proceeds benefit Post No. 1593.

Tickets may be purchased at the following locations: Dunkirk Free Library at 536 Central Ave., P & G Foods at 411 Central Ave., One Stop Big Rick’s Food Mart & Deli at 327 Lake Shore Drive East and the Dunkirk Historical Museum at 513 Washington Ave.

Please note that if you are a member of the Historical Society, you are entitled to a $5 discount, but you must purchase the ticket at the Museum. No tickets will be sold at the houses on the day of the tour.

Chautauqua Opportunities Alzheimer Services

Chautauqua Opportunities Alzheimer’s Services holds support group meetings at the Dunkirk Library the first Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The next one is today. The group is designed for those currently caring for an older relative, spouse, or family member. Come to a support group for dementia care partners. There is the opportunity to discuss ideas, gain insight, offer support, share coping tips, receive resources and share stories. This group is supported in part by a grant from the NYS Department of Health. Subsequent meetings will take place Oct. 2, Nov. 6 and Dec. 4. For more information, call: 366-3335 ext. 1236.

Board of Directors of Chautauqua Rails to Trails planned for Sept. 10

The Board of Directors of Chautauqua Rails to Trails will hold its annual meeting on Monday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at Webb’s Captains Table in Mayville. Members and other interested trail supporters are welcome. Officers slated for approval are President: Jim Fincher, Vice President: Breeanne Agett, Treasurer: Elsa Nelson and Secretary: Wendy Lewellen.

Vendor Fair Benefit for Ripley Public Library building fund Sept. 15

There will be a vendor fair hosted by the Ripley Public Library and Noble Winery on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Noble Winery, 8630 Hardscrabble Road, Westfield from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All crafters, artists and direct sales are welcome. Tables are not provided. No electricity will be provided. Areas are 10′ by 12′. No pets are allowed.

The event will take place rain or shine. The cost is $20 per table, and the donation of at least one item for a Chinese auction.

The organizers reserve the right to reject any application.
