Sheridan Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary to meet today

The Sheridan Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting today at 7 p.m. at the Fire Hall, 2800 Route 20, Sheridan.

“Fur Ball Gala” set for Saturday

The Lakeshore Humane Society is holding its third annual “Fur Ball Gala” fund-raiser on Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, 30 Lake Shore Drive E. in Dunkirk. This special night out includes a small plate dinner, silent and live auctions, live music, cat ear tiaras for sale, fun games, wine provided by Johnson Estate Winery, Tito’s Handmade Vodka drink specials, and more.

All proceeds from the Fur Ball Gala will benefit the Lakeshore Humane Society. LHS is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to helping protect the welfare of all animals. Its Adoption Center is located at 431 E. Chestnut St. in Dunkirk.

Tickets for the Fur Ball Gala are $50 each. They can be purchased at the Clarion or at the LHS Adoption Center. Attire is little black dress. A total of 150 tickets will be available for sale. Pre-event purchase of tickets is advisable. A few tickets may be available at the door.

Westfield Quilters’ Guild Welcomes Kim Kahanic

The Westfield Quilter’s Guild will host guest speaker Kim Kahanic from the Chautauqua Region Quilt Guild at the October monthly meeting. Kahanic’s program is entitled, “Things I Have Learned about Sewing and Quilting.” She will present a trunk show, talk about quilting techniques, and demonstrate some quilting tools. Members as well as visitors are welcome to come and be a part of the fun Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Westfield YWCA, 48 S. Portage St.

Fredonia Food Pantry open Saturday

On Saturday the Fredonia Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. until noon at Fredonia Presbyterian Church at 219 Central Ave. The pantry serves the needs of residents of Fredonia, area code 14063, Pomfret, Sheridan, and Laona. All guests receive one or more bags of non-perishable food. The number of bags given out depends on family size.

Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias: Responding to Behaviors presentation planned for tuesday

The Chautauqua County Office for the Aging, Alzheimer’s Association and DENT Neurological Institute will provide an informative presentation on Frontal Temporal Dementia and Lewy Body Dementia as well as Alzheimer’s. Learn about community resources. Light refreshments will be served from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

The event will take place Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 733 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Parking is in the rear of the church.

Paint something pretty while helping to support Thrifty Kitty

On Thursday, “Create an Art Scene with Tamara” presents an evening of painting and wine. “Snowman with scarf,” offers two stemless wine glasses to paint and keep. $30 includes all materials. Wine will be available for purchase and light snacks provided. A portion of proceeds to benefit Westfield Stray Cat Rescue. The event will take place at Noble Winery, 8630 Hardscrabble Road, Westfield. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Class begins at 7 p.m. Patrons can pay in advance by calling 785-7471 and receive a $5 voucher for the Thrifty Kitty. Walk-ins are also welcome.
