Pumpkin decorating contest to benefit Owen Miller family

Cross Roads Farm & Craft Market, located at 6017 Westfield/Sherman Road in Westfield, is holding its inaugural “Pumpkin Decorating Contest for a Cause” on Saturday. The grand prize is $500 cash. This year, proceeds will benefit the Owen Miller family. The cost to enter is $10 and pumpkin entries can be dropped off to Cross Roads on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Pumpkin carving party planned at YWCA on Sunday

Pumpkin carving will take place at the YWCA of Westfield, 58 S. Portage St., on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. The first ticket is $10. Additional family members are $5. With each ticket, guests receive one pumpkin, carving tools with a stencil of your choice or paint, and one battery powered candle to light up your creation. This event is fun for the whole family. It will take place rain or shine. Space is limited. RSVP to the facebook event with how many people will be attending with your group.

Carving starts at 2 p.m. and ends around 5 p.m.

Hanover announces fire hydrant flushing


HANOVER — The Hanover Water and Wastewater Department will begin flushing fire hydrants in the Town of Hanover water districts, including the hamlet of Forestville. This work will start the week of Oct. 22. Employees will be conducting this flushing during the hours of 8 p.m. to midnight. It is expected to take anywhere from two to three weeks to complete the work.

During this time, you may experience a slight drop in water pressure along with some discoloration. Your water will remain safe for consumption during this process.
