JAMESTOWN — Cornell Cooperative Extension Chautauqua County’s 4-H Youth Development Program celebrated National 4-H Week recently by sharing the great things 4-H does in area communities.

4-H clubs have the opportunity to partner with a business or organization in their community to create a display that showcases what 4-H is about and how youths are impacted by 4-H programming.

This year’s theme was “4-Hers are the Superheroes of the Future.” Eight clubs took part in the contest. The Busti Buckaroos partnered with Busti Country Convenience, Canadaway partnered with Fredonia Hardware, Cherry Creek Cornhuskers created a display at the Cherry Creek Library, Fredonia Star Riders partnered with the Forestville Animal Hospital, Stockton Panthers created a display at the Sinclairville Library, “Stow”-A-Way Kids showcased their programming at the Bemus Point Elementary School, and Wild Oats partnered with Covenant Manor.

An anonymous volunteer judges the displays and clubs receive a small monetary prize to use toward programming if they place in the top three. This year, Canadaway, Wild Oats and the Cherry Creek Cornhuskers placed first, second and third, respectively.

If you are interested in joining 4-H, now is the perfect time to get involved. Youth ages 5-19 can participate in one of nine animal projects and 20 clubs. Call the 4-H Office at 664-9502 ext. 214 or visit cce.cornell.edu/Chautauqua/4-h-youth for more information.

The 4-H Youth Development Program is one of many programs offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County.
