Dr. Sherri “Sam” Mason

Kazuhiro Yoshida from IDEA Consultants Inc., supporting Ministry of Environment Japan,  will hold a workshop on microplastics in the ocean, and has invited Dr. Sherri “Sam” Mason, chairwoman of the Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences at the State University of New York at Fredonia, to share her experiences, especially in practical work in the field.

The two-day international workshop with scientists and experts is slated for today and Sunday in Tokyo.

The tentative agenda for the event includes discussion of the current status of monitoring procedures for microplastics in the ocean; challenges and solutions for the standardization and harmonization of monitoring procedures for microplastics in the ocean; a case study on a supposed research cruise project gathering surface distribution data of microplastics in the ocean with international cooperation; and developing a road map for the standardization and harmonization of monitoring procedure for microplastics in the ocean.
