Common Council gears up for summer events
The Dunkirk Common Council will hear three event requests and four loudspeaker permit applications at tonight’s meeting.
Buffalo United Front Inc. is looking to expand the reach of its local chapter with request to use Memorial Park on June 24 for an inaugural Family Fun Day. The nonprofit organization has held a Family Fishing Day in Buffalo for eight years along with other events like a winter carnival and Underground Railroad Heritage commemoration.
The two other requests are for use of Promenschenkel Stadium. Scott Herdzik, on behalf of the First Ward Falcon Club, requested the stadium on May 6 for the Early Bird Fast Pitch Softball Tournament. The Dunkirk Fast-Pitch Team requested the stadium as well as Koch’s and the School 7 fields from July 14 to 16 as well as a curfew waiver and permission for a food stand.
Loudspeaker permit applications were filed by the Lake Shore Street Rod Association for a live band and DJ on July 9 at Point Gratiot, Dunkirk Memorial Post 62 for a live band on May 29, the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club Inc. for live bands and speakers from May 1 to Oct. 1 and by Bart’s Cove for live bands and speakers from May 1 to Nov. 31.
A notice of claim was received from Heidi Rizzo for alleged damages to her tire due to a pothole on Willow Road.
A thank-you letter is also on file from Henry and Rachel Hube, drawing awareness to the Dunkirk Police Department’s program to check residences when occupants are away on vacation.
The meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. following a workshop at 5 p.m. and the economic development committee meeting at 4 p.m., all in city hall.
