IDA hearing offers no details on NRG PILOT

A public hearing the State University of New York at Fredonia incubator on Central Avenue in Dunkirk offered no details of a change in a payment in lieu of taxes agreement between the county Industrial Development Agency and NRG Energy Inc. this afternoon.

About 25 people were in attendance from the public to voice their concerns about the lack of Dunkirk and the school district having a say on the proposal.

NRG, which is in the midst of repowering the Dunkirk plant to be run on natural gas instead of coal, decreased its PILOT payment in 2017 to the city, its school district and county by 85 percent — from $8 million to about $1.4 million to all three entities.
