Next ‘Brown Bag’ talk at Fredonia to probe virtual reality

Virtual reality will be explored by three speakers at the State University of New York at Fredonia’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Brown Bag presentation on Wednesday, March 1, from noon to 1 p.m. at Williams Center Room S204.

Sharing their insights into virtual reality — the use of computer technologies that use software to generate realistic images, sounds and other sensations that replicate a real environment — will be Dr. Scott Medler, Department of Biology; Dr. Neil Feit, Department of Philosophy; and Andrew Wheelock, technology coordinator for the Western New York Regional Information Center.

Dr. Medler will discuss issues from teaching neurobiology, while Dr. Feit will examine virtual reality from age-old questions such as, “What is reality?” and “What makes a good life?” Mr. Wheelock serves as a technology coordinator at local high schools and has used virtual reality in various projects with students.

The talk is free and open to students, faculty, staff and community members. Refreshments will be provided by the Faculty Student Association.
