Holbrook looks to remain Westfield trustee

Alan Holbrook is seeking re-election for his position as trustee to the Westfield Village Board. He released the following statement:

“I am seeking my second term for Westfield Village Trustee. I have been endorsed by both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.

“I am a lifelong resident of Westfield. I am a graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School and SUNY Fredonia. I have been married to my wonderful wife of 30+ years, Lisa and we have two beautiful daughters, Alexandra and Marie.

“Before my recent retirement, I served as the WACS Business Administrator for 30 years. While at WACS I was past President of Chautauqua County School Business Officials (1990) and Southwestern New York Chapter of New York State School Business Officials (1991), also, as past President of Chautauqua County Schools Health Trust.

“I have been an active member of the Fire Department of Westfield for the past 42 years. I am currently treasurer of the Hook and Ladder Company, Secretary of the Emergency First Aid Squad. I am an active member of the Westfield Exempt Firemen’s Association. I was recently elected President and I have previously served as Vice-President and Secretary.

“I am a charter Member of the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 327 and treasurer for the past 31 years.

“I have served as a member of the YWCA Board of Trustees for the past 13 years, as a member of the Westfield Development Corporation for the past 18 years, previously served as secretary and currently as treasurer. I served on the Westfield Memorial Hospital Board from 1987 to 1993 (Treasurer 1988-89 and President 1989-93), and I served on the Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation Board from 1993 to 1999 and acted as President 1993-1999.

“I am a former member of the Youth Recreation Department Commission having served as vice-chair and chair. I have previously served as a coach, official and Board Member for Little League Softball, Babe Ruth Baseball and Babe Ruth Softball. I coached Junior Varsity Softball at WACS 2001-2006. I founded the Girls Division of Westfield Recreation Department Youth Basketball and directed the program for 10 years.

“I was a member of the former Deutschmeister Band for 42 years and served as President the last 10 years of the band. I am a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Altar Guild.

“Community Service is a value that I was raised with as my parents were always active in the Westfield community. My mother served as a scout leader, YWCA Board member and in other community activities. My father served as Fire Chief, Village Board Member, Governor of the Moose and coach. So being active and giving back to the community is something that I grew up with and took for granted.

“As a lifelong resident of Westfield, I care very deeply about our community. I hope that my time and service have added value to the community and our quality of life. My former employer, Westfield Central School, now includes community service as a graduation requirement reflecting the community’s values and I think that is a worthwhile endeavor in many, many ways.

“I am honored to be nominated for village trustee by both the Republican and Democratic Parties. I am a lifelong republican and my views do align more closely with the Republican Party but I have decided to run for trustee because I believe the direction that our current mayor, Michael VandeVelde, is taking the village is the proper path for our community’s future. We are longtime friends and I believe we share the same vision for the future of Westfield.”
