Marauder Trotter 5K slated for Dunkirk’s waterfront
The Dunkirk High School Class of 1989 will host the 3rd annual Marauder Trotter 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ Quarter-Mile Run on Saturday, July 1 along the Dunkirk waterfront starting and ending at Wright Park.
The community event will start at 9 a.m. with a Kids’ Quarter-Mile Run for ages 10 years and younger beginning at 10:15 a.m.
The cost is $25 for adults and $12 each for the kids’ event.
The pre-registration deadline is Monday, June 26 to guarantee a complimentary race t-shirt for all registrants. The day of registration cost is $30 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Wright Park.

Early race packet pick up (race bib, t-shirt and swag bag) and last minute pre-registration will take place Friday, June 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel patio.
The race, under the direction of classmates D.J. Wilson, race director, and Scott Mekus, event manager, will start at Wright Park and continue along the break wall, behind the Clarion Hotel, to Memorial Park and continue back to Wright Park. Race chip timing will be provided by Chautauqua Striders and Trackqua Timing.
The open-to-public fundraiser will also include a cash prizes, medals to the top three finishers in each age group, awards ceremony, basket auction with proceeds supporting DHS Homecoming 2017, entertainment by DJ Joe Gould, snacks, refreshments and the DHS Marauder masc ot.
All proceeds from the race portion of the event will benefit the Dunkirk High School Class of 1989 Memorial Scholarship in honor of their deceased classmates – Paula Kuschel, Jennifer Styborski, Jody Wdowiasz, Mike Koch, Robert Pierce, James Kulpa,Susan Butts, Elizabeth Barnes, Tony Quiles, Susan Gorka (Stoyle), Scott Roesler, Todd Iskra, Paul Szach, Joseph Pieszak, John Gizowski and Tammy Crawford.
Past DHS scholarship award winners were Alyssa Loveland (2014), Emily Karalus (2015) and Ben Tarnowski (2016). The 2017 award recipient will be announced at the DHS Class Night in June.
New this year is a race t-shirt design contest. All one-color, front only design entries must be in a digital PDF, JPEG or PNG format no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches. This year’s shirt will be gray with the sponsor names on back of shirt.
The top winner will receive a complimentary Marauder Trotter 2017 race entry, a free race T-shirt and a $50 Wal-Mart gift card. Judges will be comprised of members of the Marauder Trotter committee and reserve the right to reject a selected design if it is deemed inappropriate.
