Chautauqua Bright Spots to highlight area

Chautauqua Bright Spots will recognize six new “Bright Spots” on June 6 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator at 214 Central Ave. in Dunkirk.

Bright Spots are groups, organizations or other entities in the local community that are making Chautauqua County a better and brighter place to live, work and play.

The six entities being recognized — each, in their own way — represent the agencies that help the community be healthy and grow in a positive way. Those being recognized include the SUNY Fredonia Incubator, Court Appointed Special Advocate of Chautauqua County, The Chautauqua Center’s Eat Smart NY Program, Mini Maker Faire, St. Gianna Molla and Catholic Charities. Representatives from each of these Bright Spots will speak about their programs and why they have been a success in Chautauqua County, specifically in the Dunkirk area.

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Chautauqua Bright Spots is an initiative of the HOPE Chautauqua Coalition, which promotes substance abuse prevention in the county. Designated Bright Spots embody the committee’s mission to: empower neighborhoods, groups and individuals to create positive community change; highlight positive alternatives to harmful behaviors; and build community connectedness to make Chautauqua a healthier place to live, work and play.

If you know of groups, entities or organizations in Chautauqua County that fit the description of a Bright Spot, like the Facebook page, www.facebook.com/chqbrightspots, and fill out an online nomination form. Nominations will be accepted continuously, and Bright Spots will be designated at special recognition events on a periodic basis. There are many Bright Spots out there, so let’s give them the recognition they deserve!
