HANOVER — It may not excite the average Joe, but to those involved with the very long process of renovating the town of Hanover’s wastewater treatment plant, it’s big news. Phase 4 is starting!

At a recent Hanover Town Board meeting, the agenda stated what many have been waiting for: a motion to authorize Phase 4 of the project.

“The town board of the town of Hanover hereby makes the following determinations and classifications with respect to the town of Hanover’s wastewater treatment plant project, Phase 4,” Town Supervisor Kevin Johnson read.

The improvements to be made in Phase 4 include the construction of a “sludge off-loading station,” and the construction and installation of a “sludge processing/dewatering building.” Sludge pumps and air blowers will also be installed, along with sludge dewatering equipment. Chlorine tank improvements will also be made; those were moved to Phase 4 from Phase 3. Fencing, lighting and driveway modifications will be made, and drainage of the site will take place.

The town will act as lead agent for this phase of the project. The town’s consulting engineer firm, GHD, is still hard at work on the project, under the direction of Paul J. McGarvey.

The resolution also stated that the action is subject to SEQR, that other interested or involved agencies will be given a copy of the resolution and that the resolution will take effect immediately.

The motion was unanimously approved by those present.

Another resolution to purchase a new sewer/water computer program from Network Oriented Solutions, Inc. was also passed. Four different companies submitted quotes to the town for the same services; the board chose Network Oriented Solutions with the recommendation of Town Clerk Janine Salzman. The program will cost $8,305 initially, with annual support and maintenance coming in at $750. Johnson noted that the village of Silver Creek uses the same program, and therefore simple issues that arise may be resolved with a phone call to the neighbors.

The next town board workshop and meeting is set for June 26 at town hall, starting at 6:30 p.m.
