Route 219 bridge to honor Cattaraugus County legislator

CONCORD — Recently, New York state lawmakers passed A.7733, designating “Gerard ‘Jess’ Fitzpatrick Memorial Bridge” in honor of Fitzpatrick, who led the efforts to upgrade U.S. Route 219 to a four-lane highway.

The bill is sponsored by Assemblyman Joseph M. Giglio (R,C,I — Gowanda).

“We rarely get a chance to honor such a hard-working and dedicated person. Jess’ forward thinking continues to be an inspiration to many. His unwavering support for improving the quality of life, educational opportunities and economic development in Cattaraugus County and throughout the region will be memorialized through the dedication of this bridge” said Giglio.

Fitzpatrick served as chair of the Cattaraugus County Legislature, a Southern Tier West Regional Planning and Development Board member, chair of the Southern Tier Extension Railroad Authority and a co-chair on the Cattaraugus County Route 219 Development Committee, where he advocated for a four-lane expressway to expand the region’s economic development.
