Two-car collision a scare on Route 60, Webster
A two-car collision occurred Monday at approximately 4 p.m. at the Route 60/Webster Road intersection. The Fredonia Fire Department and Chautauqua Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.
According to a deputy at the scene, one vehicle was travelling southbound on Route 60 and struck a second vehicle as it was crossing eastbound on Webster Road. No further information was given by authorities.
Cynthia Welling, driver of the first vehicle, a blue Ford Escape, said she was driving on Route 60, heading home to Sinclairville from work, when a red car sped in front of her.
“(The driver) didn’t even stop (at the stop sign); he flew across,” Welling said. “I don’t think he knew there was a stop sign because he was going so fast. He flew out in front of me. If he had stopped at the stop sign then he must have accelerated fast.”
After striking the red vehicle, it spun into a ditch off of Webster Road.
Although the red car appeared to sustain severe damage, no passengers were transported to area medical facilities.
Welling’s car sustained structural damage to the driver’s side door and the front driver’s side headlight and hood.
“It starts,” Welling said of her car. “I turned it around to see if I could potentially drive home. The airbags didn’t go off. I was wearing my seatbelt. I went over (to the other car) to see if the (driver and passengers) were okay. The (emergency vehicles) showed up fast.”
