Stockton Town Court receives $17,000 JCAP grant

STOCKTON — Many improvements were recently made to the Stockton Town Court as well as the Stockton Library building due to a $17,451.50 grant from the New York State Justice Court Assistance Program.

The grant was applied for by Stockton Town Justice Mark Cunningham, and the approval letter was received earlier this year.

“This is the third year I have applied for these grants,” Cunningham said. “In the three years I have applied, the Stockton Town Court has been awarded over $52,000. We have been able to make many major improvements to the Court, the building, and parking lot area.”

According to Cunningham, the updates have included improvements to the surveillance system, additional 911 panic buttons, installation of a first aid kit, emergency exit lighting that will activate in the event of a power outage, improved and additional lighting for the parking lot, as well as a central air conditioning unit.

“I am extremely happy with how much has been accomplished,” he said. “The enhanced interior and parking lot lighting has been tremendous. People who attend court, as well as patrons that visit the Library can now safely get to their vehicles at night.”

Cunningham said the Stockton Town Board has always been extremely supportive of his applications for these grants. The board is fantastic to work with and has given him everything he has needed to make these successful. The Stockton Library Board has also been incredibly cooperative.

“Town Supervisor Dave Wilson deserves a big thank you,” Cunningham noted. “Working as much as I do, he was instrumental in getting this accomplished. Dave was able to meet with contractors, and facilitate building access when needed. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without him. It was a team effort.”

The work was required to be completed within six months of the money being received per the conditions of the grant. Cunningham said that was easily accomplished.
