Retired Hospice president running for Fredonia trustee

Ron Sellers

Ron Sellers, the retired president of Hospice of Chautauqua County has announced his candidacy for an unexpired seat on the Fredonia Village Board. Sellers, a Fredonia resident for more than 14 years, will run as an independent on the “Village Vitality” line on the November ballot.

Sellers first came to the Village of Fredonia upon the urging of Dr. Dana Wheelock, who felt that Ron and his late wife Susan would be a good fit for the Fredonia, and Fredonia would be a good fit for them. Sellers moved to the village and began what became a 13 year career with Hospice.

Sellers is a native of Buffalo, and had previously served as a teacher, principal, and Central Office Administrator at Erie 1 BOCES for 20 years.

Sellers’ move into the field of health care came when he was asked to join Millard Fillmore Hospital as vice president for human resources and chief learning officer. He was employed there for eight years. Sellers helped with the creation of Kaleida Health in Buffalo, then accepted a position at a large teaching hospital in Chicago where he served as vice president for four years, helping to improve all aspects of the medical center. Sellers was then recruited to serve as vice president of administration at an 11 hospital system in eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia. While in Kentucky, he received the Key to the City of Hazard for helping create and relocate 200 jobs to the city.

During his career, Sellers was also appointed to the New York State Job Training Council, the Chicago Workforce Investment Board, and the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board. These experiences make him uniquely qualified to deal with issues of employment and development in the village of Fredonia.

Sellers feels that he had finally found a home in the village of Fredonia. He has spent the past 14 years contributing to the community and making it a better place. He was recognized for his “Service to Humanity” by the Fredonia Chamber of Commerce.

“I believe in creating a vision for the village of Fredonia, then working hard to realize it,” said Sellers.

“We already have a wonderful community with excellent police, fire, and emergency services. We need to maintain those things to continue to keep our village safe. We also have aging infrastructure that needs to be addressed, and we need to focus on economic development to stimulate the local economy.”

Sellers also wants to expand upon the development of recreational and social activities for all ages in the village, and wants to include the college in as many village activities and plans as possible. “The college needs to be more than just a neighbor. They are a valuable resource and I look forward to collaborating with them much more.”

“I could have lived anywhere for the past 14 years, but Fredonia is where I want to be. I want to create an environment in the village of Fredonia where everyone can prosper — economically, socially, and personally. I want to focus on the ‘Vitality’ of our village. I recently retired and would like to dedicate my time and my experience to maintaining what we have that works well, and improving the things that will make Fredonia even better.”
