Sanvidge stepping down from county IDA
Kevin M. Sanvidge, Administrative Director/CEO of the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA) and Director of the Chautauqua County Department of Planning and Economic Development, has announced that he will be completing his term of service to Chautauqua County effective Dec. 15.
Sanvidge took over the helm of the CCIDA and Department of Planning and Economic Development on May 27, 2014, following a successful career in business and industry. Appointed by the current and outgoing County Executive Vince Horrigan, Sanvidge has guided these organizations through an unprecedented period of economic growth and success.
The CCIDA is a New York state public authority charged with attracting, retaining and building capacity in Chautauqua County businesses. As IDA director for nearly four years, Sanvidge has overseen 68 business loans and grants valued at $13 million, and overseen 32 tax lease and PILOT projects with annual tax payments of $9 million. These efforts have retained and created over 3,500 jobs and spurred new private investments of $345 million in Chautauqua County. Major projects included Athenex, a 325,000 square foot oncology drug manufacturing plant; New Flyer bus manufacturing facility; Castelli America cheese processing plant, Celoron Harbor Hotel, Cummins engine expansion projects, Arkwright Wind Turbine project, and Fieldbrook Foods cold storage expansion project. Sanvidge has been key to shepherding the NRG Dunkirk repowering project through difficult times to keep this major contributor to our tax base and producer of clean and reliable energy on track.
Recognizing the changing nature of economic development in the region with strong growth in tourism and hospitality industry, Sanvidge spearheaded the return of the PGA to Chautauqua County with the highly successful LECOM Health Challenge Web.Com golf tournament at the Peek’n Peak. He has grown the Grand Fondo bicycle touring event to attract hundreds of out of county residents to Chautauqua County. He was also instrumental in the Holiday Harbor Chadwick Bay (Dunkirk Harbor) marina project to significantly enhance Lake Erie marina services.
Mike Metzger, Chairman of the CCIDA Board of Directors said, “Thanks to Kevin and his team, the CCIDA is financially sound, providing a strong foundation for future economic development. Kevin’s vision, creativity, enthusiasm, and tremendous work ethic generated exceptional economic growth and new business opportunities for Chautauqua County.”
As Director of the Chautauqua County Department of Planning and Economic Development, Sanvidge successfully oversaw the completion of numerous project funding initiatives through Western New York Consolidated Funding Applications as well as the completion of the Chautauqua Lake Macrophyte Management Strategy to control in-lake vegetation, and numerous dredging projects in Lake Erie harbors. His restructuring of the organization has built a strong team that leverages the planning process to spearhead economic development and collaboration of efforts across Chautauqua County.
Chautauqua County Executive Vince Horrigan noted that Kevin Sanvidge was instrumental in Chautauqua County’s “We are on the Move” strategy for growth.
“I thank Kevin Sanvidge for his dedication and service to the citizens of Chautauqua County,” said Horrigan. “Kevin skillfully guided the reins of Chautauqua County economic development efforts during a period of unprecedented growth. Under his tenure, Chautauqua County was recently ranked second of the 18 Western New York counties for the value of 56 investment projects totaling over $2.8 billion. Kevin has improved relationships with our area businesses and economic development community and his service and leadership has been invaluable to our County.”
“It is with mix emotions that I announce my retirement as County Executive Vince Horrigan’s term is completed at the end of the year,” said Sanvidge. “It has been an honor to serve under Vince’s incredible leadership and tenacious focus on improving the quality of life in Chautauqua County. I have also been honored to serve under Mike Metzger, Chairman of the CCIDA Board of Directors, and the entire CCIDA Board. Mike’s optimism and creative vision afforded our team to move in new directions to ensure the economic growth of Chautauqua County. I believe a strong foundation has been built in both Planning and Economic Development and the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency that will continue to exceed economic development expectations in our region. There would not have been the level of success without the total dedication to excellence from both teams.”
“As I leave office, our economic development success is clearly evident across the County and it is ready for County Executive Elect George Borrello to elevate Chautauqua County on to even greater heights,” said Horrigan.
