Busti man charged with possession of weapon, marijuana

A Busti man faces drug charges stemming from a traffic stop on Tuesday.

At 3:47 p.m. Tuesday, Jamestown police reported seeing Christopher J. Light, 37, of Busti driving on Harrison and South Main streets, Jamestown. Light reportedly had outstanding arrest warrants from Busti Town Court. Light’s vehicle was pulled over and Light was taken into custody. Jamestown police report Light was found in possession of contraband materials and will be charged by Jamestown police later.

The Busti Town Court warrant stemmed from a short investigation by Lakewood-Busti police and the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force on Nov. 15. Police report the task force, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Dept. SWAT Team and Lakewood-Busti police executed a search warrant issued by Busti Town Court at Light’s home and found a quantity of marijuana, a loaded Glock handgun, multiple loaded high-capacity handguns, a high-powered rifle, two shotguns, growing marijuana and the elements of a methamphetamine lab. Light was not in the home at the time of the search, leading to the warrant being issued.

Light will be arraigned today on charges of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of marijuana.
