Forestville schools under lockout after threats
FORESTVILLE — The Forestville Central School is under a lockout until further notice.
On Thursday night, the superintendent received a phone call from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department. The deputy informed the superintendent that an individual made threats against the school.
“We are taking every precaution to keep our students and staff safe,” the note on the district web site says. “We will be in lockout until further notice. The police are assisting and will remain present.”
During a lockout, the perceived danger is outside of the school. Administrators ensure the building’s perimeter is secured. While the Lockout response encourages greater staff situational awareness, it allows for educational practices to continue with little classroom interruption or distraction.
District parents received a call on the lockout before 8 this morning. Some parents then removed their children from the schools.
The school reported all staff have been reminded to remain diligent in upholding our safety standards and report any suspicious behavior.
