A Field Day for Sinclairville kindergarteners at Greystone Nature Preserve

Submitted Photo Kindergarten teachers and staff of Sinclairville Elementary School declare what they love about Nature.

It was a perfect weather day when 66 kindergarteners from Sinclairville Elementary School spent a day in Nature at Greystone Nature Preserve. The day opened with each child stating what they like best about Nature. Everything from elephants to diamonds was mentioned. Then the children explored four different stations, each one aimed at giving experiential environmental learnings. The Bat Cave allowed them to feel what life is like as a bat and learn some interesting bat facts. At the Tree Treasures station they came to appreciate many of the gifts of trees and gained some understanding of how trees work. Sandi Emke, the assistant director of Greystone Nature Preserve, led a Nature Scavenger Hunt along a wooded trail. The children also got to experience the perils of fishing and finding trash. A picnic-style lunch was enjoyed by all with fruit-flavored drinks and watermelon provided by Greystone.

Greystone Nature Preserve is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to teaching experiential environmental education to community members of all ages and abilities. The day was partially funded by The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation.
