National Society of DAR Benjamin Prescott Chapter meets

A regular meeting of the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held at the Clarion on Route 5 in Dunkirk recently with guests from the SAR.

Regent Brenda Johnson performed the opening ritual. Antoniette Sherman read the DAR President’s Message and Kari Wendel read an article about displaying the flag properly, since Flag Day is June 14.

Secretary Myra Johnston read the minutes from the previous meeting.

Congratulations to Lisa Sedlmayer for 40 years of dedicated service to the Daughters of the American Revolution. There was a cake to celebrate this milestone.

Brenda Johnson, regent, conducted the official ceremony to induct three new members into the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Benjamin Prescott Chapter is honored to have Ginny Titus, Deborah Langebartell and Lois Sanderson join in the Mission of Historic Preservation, Education and Patriotic Service. Now, these three are official members of the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Welcome.

On June 5, JROTC Cadet Taysmarie Otero was presented a DAR metal and scholarship of $100 by Brenda Johnson, regent, Benjamin Prescott Chapter DAR at a banquet held at the Dunkirk High School attended by several organizations honoring the accomplishments of the students.

The Chapter is planning for its 120th anniversary next year and many members are planning to attend Continental Congress in Washington, D.C. from June 20-24 and the 129th New York State Conference in Rochester in September.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m. to enjoy dinner and a celebration, with cake of Lisa Sedlmayer’s 40 years and the three new members. The celebration included an informative program about Lafayette presented by Steve Boothe from the Chautauqua County Sons of the American Revolution.

The next meeting is a trip to Seneca Falls and Auburn on July 25. Aug. 16 will be the summer picnic in Mayville.

Anyone who had an ancestor that fought for freedom in the Revolutionary War and would like to join the DAR is asked to call Dawn Ubaney at 679-1218.
