Jamestown-to-Dunkirk bike ride planned for Laurel Run

Area bicycling enthusiasts interested in taking a charity ride to support people with disabilities are invited to take part in a planned ride from Jamestown to Dunkirk on Friday, July 20.

The bike ride is part of the first day of the 22nd annual Laurel Memorial Run & Walk. Participants should go to The Resource Center’s facility at 75 Jones & Gifford Avenue for a free kickoff breakfast at 8 a.m. Following speeches by Laurel Run officials and local dignitaries, the bike ride will begin at about 8:45 in conjunction with the start of the Laurel Run flag relay.

Bike ride participants can ride at their own pace or travel with the group. The finishing point is Washington Park in Dunkirk, where city officials will host a victory celebration from noon to 2 p.m.

Those interested in taking part in the bike ride should phone The Resource Center at 661-4735. Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation from Dunkirk to Jamestown following the completion of the ride. There is no cost to participate in the ride, but Laurel Run organizers hope participants will consider making a donation or creating their own fund-raising web page. To do that, visit www.crowdrise.com/LaurelRun2018.

The Laurel Memorial Run & Walk is a celebration of the potential that exists within people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Money raised through the event benefits Filling the Gap, Inc., a local not-for-profit organization that works with The Resource Center to improve the lives of people with disabilities in Chautauqua County.
